Tent Camping Tips
Pick the Right Tent
There are many tents available for sale, so it’s best to think about how much room you will need based on who will be tent camping with you. For older kids, you could let them have their own tent.
You can borrow a tent from family or friends to test out tent camping for the first time. Then invest in your own when you’re truly ready to go tent camping on a regular basis.

Air Mattress or Sleeping Bags
While you will need blankets or sleeping bags regardless of whether you opt for an air mattress or not, it’s important to decide on whether you’re going to sleep inside of the tent with sleeping bags underneath you or opt for an air mattress. You’ll have less back pain if you get an air mattress that will fit inside of your selected tent. There are many foam mattresses or air mattresses that can easily work, just be sure to read all reviews before purchasing.
I personally have to have an air mattress in order to go camping. If I was to try to sleep on the ground I would never make my way out of that tent again without the help of emergency crews.

Prepare for Inclement Weather
While you can check the weather report before you leave to go camping, you never know when it could change. This is especially true here in Texas where I am. Be sure to pack a tarp which can be used for shelter. These are great when it rains or used shade when it’s too sunny. You’ll also want to pack extra clothing and rain boots. This way you’re well prepared for any weather pattern that arrives during your tent camping trip. A waterproof poncho will be a mood saver if it starts raining during your tent camping trip.

Since you’re going to be tent camping it’s important to bring along any utensils you may need. You will also need a few pots and pans that will work over an open fire. This will help ensure that your family can enjoy food while tent camping. You won’t need a lot of chairs if you find a tent camping site with tree stumps for sitting. Think ahead about what you will need in the woods for all of your meals.
Create a meal plan for your tent camping trip to ensure you have the appropriate camping materials.

Be Safety Conscious
Do not keep any food items in your tent. You can opt to keep food in the appropriate airtight containers in your car or hanging from a tree. This ensures no wild animals or insects will come sniffing out your tent. In addition be sure to bring along any hygiene materials you need.
While you may not be able to shower, you can use a local stream to brush your teeth cleaned up. You can also wash up using water heated up by a campfire. Keep your tent area free of any food that may attract wildlife so that you remain safe while tent camping.
Camping can be a fun tradition if you’re fully prepared with these tent camping tips for beginners. There’s nothing more relaxing than being out in the woods with nature as you relax. Getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life is amazing.
